The US President Seems to Take a Liking for Kim Jong Un After the Historic Meet

The much-anticipated meet between the US President Donald Trump and the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un is over. Both the leaders did their best, setting aside the past 60 years of distrust and dark history for this historic meet.

The two had been taking jabs at each other in the past, but after the meet, the US President actually expressed his admiration for his counterpart.

He called Kim a tough guy who took over his country at a young age of 27 in an interview to Bret Baier, a Fox News anchor. While the anchor wanted Trump to talk about Kim’s human-rights violations, Trump actually chose to praise his leadership.

He said, “He’s a tough guy. Hey, when you take over a country, tough country, with tough people, and you take it over from your father - I don’t care who you are, what you are, how much of an advantage you have. If you can do that at 27-years-old, I mean, that’s one in 10,000 that can do that. So, he’s a very smart guy. He’s a great negotiator. But I think we understand each other.”

Trump was giving this interview aboard Air Force One and he chose to ignore the anchor’s comments about Kim getting his uncle and half-brother killed.

When the reporter pressed further, Trump said that it’s ok and many other people have also done some really bad things in the past. He played defensive on Kim. It looks like that President Trump is seldom bothered on the human rights violation front. Last year too, he had defended the Russian President Vladimir Putin on it.

Kim Jong-un Says that US Sanctions make the Country’s National Spirit Stronger

Trump Vs Kim Jong-un

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has said that sanctions make the country’s national spirit after the United States declared Pyongyang a state sponsor of terrorism. “The hostile forces’ desperate attempts to block the advance of North Korea make the indomitable spirit of the Korean workers stronger and make them produce a great miracle startling the world,” Kim Jong-un said during his visit to the Sungri Motor complex, according to the state news agency KCNA.

As seen in the images and described in the text, the leader personally drove one of the new five-tonne trucks produced at the plant located in Tokchon, about 90 km northeast of Pyongyang, which manufactured the first North Korean truck in 1958, reports Efe news.

Without specifying the date of the visit, KCNA reported that Kim stressed the importance of North Korea being able to manufacture motor vehicles on its own so that the country could “develop the economy and strengthen national power”.

KCNA published the report after US President Donald Trump on Monday announced his decision to re-include North Korea on the list of state sponsors of terrorism. The designation will be accompanied by new sanctions that the US Department of the Treasury plans to issue against North Korea Tuesday.

Most analysts believe that the re-inclusion of North Korea on the list will have only a symbolic effect given the large number of sanctions the Asian country has already suffered over its repeated weapons tests. North Korea was withdrawn from the list of state sponsors of terrorism in 2008 to facilitate negotiations regarding its de-nuclearisation.
