Najat Vallaud-Belkacem is a real inspiration for those who aim to scale big heights. The story of the lady who was a Shepherd Girl and now the Educational Minister of France will make you get a run of goosebumps.

Najat Vallaud-Belkacem was recently promoted as education minister of France recently. Here is her inspirational story. Najat Belkacem was born in the Moroccan countryside in 1977.

During her childhood, she used to fetch water from well. Najat’s father is a construction worker. The family moved to France, and that was the time when she saw the real world filled with opportunities.

She studied her graduation at Institut d’études Politiques de Paris (Paris Institute of Political Studies),  Which gave her opportunity to expose her knowledge to the political landscape of France. She learned French by the end of her college.

She inherited hard work from her father who was strict with his daughters. He had rules like no boys and no nightclubs till the age of 18, which made the girls surrender to their books.

She took up two jobs to take the financial burden of the family. While pursuing Master’s in Public Administration she met Boris Vallaud, a fellow student and got married to him in 2005.

Her political career began with her joining the Socialist Party as an adviser to the mayor of Lyon. She ran elections and got a seat as a councillor. In 2012, she was appointed as the Minister of Women’s Affairs by François Hollande the then president

She was appointed as Minister of Women’s Right, Minister of City Affairs, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports in 2014. In a major cabinet reshuffle, she was appointed as Minister of Education.

When asked about the cultural change in her life she said, “The fact of leaving one’s country, one’s family, one’s root can be painful, my father had already found his place, but for us, for my mother, it was tough to get our bearings.”

She advised youth to take part in active politics she said ‘”I have always advised the young people to get involved in politics. The best way to be happy with your future is by playing a part in it. If you’re just a spectator of collective fate, you’re bound to feel frustrated.”

When asked about her childhood she said “I have many good and bad memories, and it’s hard to pick one to talk about,” she said, “I lived for four years in Morocco, and I noticed that my cousins did not go to school, especially the girls.”

India signed a deal to buy 36 Rafale Fighter Jets

India has signed the deal of acquisition of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France on Friday.  The long-awaited negotiations to buy Rafale fighter came through on Wednesday. The Rafale deal was signed by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and French Defence Minister Yves Le Drian on Friday, which will cost (€7.8 billion) Rs 59,000 crore.

The deal was especially ink that eventually increases the Indian Air Force inventory. The Rafale fighter jets deal includes state-of-art Meteor Missile, which is an advanced one, the air-to-air missile, beyond the visual range of 150KM, SCALP missiles which are air-launched cruise missiles with a range of over 300KM and MICA air-to-air missiles.

As per the reports, the Rafale fighter will have at least 12 India-specific enhancements. The deliveries of jets are to begin within 36 months and will be completed by 66 months from the day of the contract.

The Rafale combat is a 4.5 Generation aircraft with twin-engine, canard-delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft that has a 3,600km range and it also features an aerial refuelling probe, 14 hardpoints for IAF (Indian Air Force) version. It will allow the aircraft to strike the target on the Pakistani soil even it is flying in the Indian airspace.

The Cabinet Committee on Security chaired by Prime Minister Modi cleared the deal on Wednesday among the rising tensions over Pakistan’s support to the terrorism and unrest. Narendra Modi has announced the deal to buy 36 Rafale fighter jets directly from France in the month of April 2016, but it took 17 months to sign the deal.

Legendary Artist S H Raza is no more.

France-based Indian artist Sayed Haider Raza passed away on Saturday. 94-year-old S H Raza left his last breath in Delhi after a prolonged illness. Whole artistic fraternity across the world is in shock. Raza is suffering from old age syndrome and was in Intensive Care Unit for a couple of months.

Raza was born in 1922 to a middle-class family to Sayed Mohammad Razi and Tahira Begum in Babaria, Mandla area, Madhya Pradesh. Later, he pursued his further at Nagpur school of Art, and Nagpur followed by Sir J.J school of Art, Bombay.

The legendary artist then moved to the institution of École Nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts, France in 1950 with the sponsorship provided by the French government. He travelled around Europe and settled in Paris where he lived for six decades. He returned to India in 2010 after his semi-retirement.

Google Acquired Moodstocks, A Paris based Image Recognition Startup

Google had again shown its love for start-ups with its latest acquisition of a France-based company named Moodstocks. The French company is well known for its fast image recognition technology using a smartphone also had confirmed the same. The recent procurement gives an idea of Google’s keen interest in the field of computer vision and the tech giant’s willingness to extend its presence in this area.

Moodstocks was started in the year 2008 and is working on developing and improving the image recognition technology on mobile devices. The Paris-based firm said that its aim is to make the camera of the smartphone into a “smart sensor” which would provide information about the world around it by just acknowledging the things in front of it.

The Firm has developed a technology by using smart sensors and cameras, which enables the Smartphone’s camera to identify 3D objects with no delay. An API is developed by using this technology and with the help of the app the smartphone camera automatically detects and provides the description of the things or objects when placed in front of the camera.

The technology is made by using deep learning algorithms, and it runs entirely on the user’s device. Using the app users can identify clothes, appliances, furniture what not everything before actually buying the product.

Moodstocks wrote on its website that “Today, we’re thrilled to announce that we’ve reached an agreement to join forces with Google to deploy our work at scale. We expect the acquisition to be completed in the next few weeks. Our focus will be to build great image recognition tools within Google, but rest assured that current paying Moodstocks customers will be able to use it until the end of their subscription.”

Vincent Simonet, head of the R&D team, France Google said that “We continue to pursue our machine learning and research efforts, and Moodstocks is the latest proof of our commitment to this area.”

Other leading tech companies are following the same policy by buying the upcoming technology startups. E-commerce firm Amazon had acquired a startup named Orbeus, which develops photo recognition technology, with its service tapping AI and neural networks.
