Now you can send payments via your Facebook Messenger.

Today, Facebook announced the Messenger Platform v1.2, which enables the users to send the money to their Facebook pals. The company is making the Messenger app more useful for its users.

The world’s largest social networking website and popular instant messenger ‘Facebook’ now supports money transfer between the friends in an easy way. This feature will make available for the users in the upcoming months in the US which allows instant money transfer at free of cost.

Facebook has an enormous responsibility to handle the financial transactions and storing the user’s debit or credit card details. For security reasons, the company uses high-standard measures to process the payments and to ensure the safety of the user information stored on their servers.

Currently, all the Facebook users can send or receive the amount using their Visa or MasterCard debit cards which issued by the United States bank.

“We use secure systems that encrypt the connection between you and Facebook as well as your card information when you ask us to store it for you,” Facebook said in a company blog post. “We use layers of software and hardware protection that meet the highest industry standards. These payment systems are kept in a secure environment that is separate from other parts of the Facebook network, and that receive additional monitoring and control.”

How to send and receive money via Facebook Messenger?

To send money

  • Start a message to your friend to whom you want to send money.
  • Click on the ‘$’ icon.
  • Enter the amount you want to transfer.
  • Tap on the ‘Pay’ option provided at the top right corner.
  • Add your debit card details for easy payment.

To receive money

  • In this process also start a conversation with your friend.
  • Click on the ‘Add card’ in the message.
  • Add your debit card information to receive money.

Note: Entering debit card information requires only for first-time use. From subsequent transactions, they need not enter the details, simply skip the step and continue to the money transfer.

For further payments, users can also add the security pin every time for every transaction process. The money you sent is transferred right away. It may take two to three business days to make the available to you which depend on the bank. Currently, this feature is made available for people in the US, but the company didn’t make any announcement of global launching.

Facebook Messenger is undoubtedly a full-featured service, how about the data it consumes? Slashing all these problems, Facebook Messenger is planning to come up with a  Data Saving Mode which allows users to choose specific content before downloading them while the cellular data connection is on.

According to the reports, An Android beta version of the app is in testing and is expected to announce for users soon. Facebook Messenger downloads all content by default, irrespective of the size. The app still functions the same while on WiFi connection. Users can select specific photos or videos that they wish to download and view while on cellular data connection.

Users can now avail the data saver mode just by signing up as a beta tester on Google Play Store. “The beta version also packs a counter, which shows the user how much data it has saved. This can be reset as required, which should be helpful to those on a rolling monthly data plan,” the report said.

The new data saver mode on Facebook Messenger may not be a surprising one as Facebook’s second biggest market is India, and still, network connectivity is a major issue here. However, this holds true for all developing markets for Facebook which includes Asia and Africa.

How to Use Secret Conversation on Messenger

  • Head over and Open Messenger App.
  • Tap on the Account Setting where you find ‘Secret Conversations.’
  • Tap on the ‘Turn On’ to enable.
  • Start a conversation to a self-destruct chat, using a tap ‘new chat’ to the right bottom of your screen.
  • A pop-up over there will appear with ‘Write message’ and ‘Make Call.’
  • Tap on ‘write a message,’ then a window opens.
  • You can find a Turn on and off option which is to your top right corner of your screen.
  • By ‘turning on’ that you can find your screen tab turns black to color.
  • You can select your recipient, by typing his/her name in the search bar.
  • Then you can find ‘secret conversation’ tab opens with the recipient, you can find the ‘timer’ symbol in red color, side to the ‘location’ icon.
  • By a tap on the Timer, you can select the ‘self-destruct’ time for the message which you send.
  • After the message is typed and sent, you can view the Time running out, which is set by you.
  • When the timer time is up, the message sent will automatically destruct and make that particular message blur.


When and only if the recipient views your message then, the timer starts to him for message destruction on his device with respect to the time you set to your message. Later, if the time-up the message destructs by itself in the recipient’s Messenger.

This feature works if and only the other recipient enables this feature.

Facebook Messenger has built a new feature which includes ‘Rooms’ which enables a public group chat about different subjects and events. This new feature was discovered in iOS app source code of Messenger is the reference and explains about how it works. It seems like social networking giant is planning to retrieve the chatrooms culture in Facebook Messenger.

The code shows “Introducing rooms” to chat about the topics and interests. Each room is provided with a link which can be shared on Messenger so anyone can join a conversation.  The user can apparently start his rooms as well.

Screenshots of user interface were observed on the internet and also shows how to manage Rooms. It is also demonstrated how to share a link to the room for easy access to other users to join.
