Delhi Govt to introduce Common Mobility Card for Travel in Metro & DTC Buses

Good News for the people in Delhi who uses public transport. In a bid to push the public transport, Delhi government is going to introduce a common mobility card. The Common Mobility Card which will work for both Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses and Delhi Metro.

The Public can make use of this facility from 1st January 2018. Initially, they will be able to use the smart cards only on a selected number of buses, and the service will be extended to all other DTC and cluster buses run by Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).

“It has been our intention to launch the scheme in January, and a lot of work has been done in the past two to three months. Three meetings were held recently with all the stakeholders,” said Delhi’s transport minister, Kailash Gahlot.” They have resolved all the issues including that of coordination, connectivity between DMRC and DTC etc.

The Common Mobility Card project has been in pending for a long time, and the Delhi Transport Corporation had conducted trials last year to check how the smart cards would work in buses. The card was to be launched in July last year.

The idea to launch common mobility card was mooted for Delhi first in 2010, and finally, they are going to launch this facility from 1st January 2018.  It will be on the lines of similar cards available for using public transport in cities like London, Hong Kong and Seoul. ETM’s have been installed in its buses which will read the smart card and also provide an e-receipt.

One City, One Card’ is the moto behind extending the use of Delhi Metro‘s smart card to its buses.

Delhi Metro to introduce Watch2pay smart watch for a hassle travel

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is planning to introduce a smart watch—Watch2Pay in collaboration with Austrian company LAKS GmbH. This watch2Pay enable users hassle-free travel in Delhi Metro.

The Watch2pay smart watch would be configured with a Delhi Metro SIM card internally. This Delhi Metro smart watch will be available for Rs. 6,000 onwards.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said the new facility would serve commuters with more convenient and faster access to the network. Commuters can get access by just touching the wrist watch to the screens of the gates in the metro stations. The SIM-sized cards can easily be removed and reinserted into the watch as and when required.

Recharge top up for the Delhi Metro smart cards can be made through credit cards, debit cards, and net banking.

“These watches (called Watch2Pay) are available through an online e-commerce site. The new facility is expected to provide the commuters a more convenient and fast access to the Delhi Metro network. The commuter will simply have to touch the wristwatch to the screens of the AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates at the metro stations to get access,” said a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) statement.
