Registrar General of India (RGI) under the Ministry of Home Affairs declares that the Aadhaar number of the dead person is required for those applying for the Death Certificate. To avoid issues related to identity fraud, the government made the Aadhaar number mandatory. However, Aadhaar linked with Death Certificate will come in to effect from 1st October.

For those who are not aware of the Aadhaar number of the person died, they have to submit the Certificate that he/she doesn’t possess any Aadhaar number as per their knowledge.

Aadhaar is a 12-digit identification biometric number which gives you the accurate details of the person living in India. Lately, several reports against the leaking or hacking the Aadhaar data and many privacy related issues arising from the use of identification number. To curb identity issues, RGI asks to link Aadhaar along with Death Certificate.

The Registrar has directed all the state and union territories which are responsible for registering birth and deaths, to establish the agreement by September 1st.

In a statement provided by Home Ministry, under the provisions of Aadhaar Act, 2016 and the Registration of Birth and Death Act, 1969 any false information given by the applicant will be treated as an offense. The statement also added that the Aadhaar number of the applicant along with his/her spouse and parents should also be collected.

This provision will come in to effect in all states except Jammu and Kashmir, Assam and Meghalaya. The dates will be announced separately for these states.

A Home Ministry official said that by linking Aadhaar with Death Certificate can help in establishing the proper identity of the deceased by the accurate details produced by the relatives. Therefore, avoids producing additional documents to prove the identity of the death. Recently, the government made it mandatory linking Aadhaar-PAN card details for e-filling Income Tax Returns and to make all the banking/ financial transaction easy.

PAN Card will be Soon Invalid if Not Linked to Aadhaar by 31st December

The Government of India announced that the PAN card number should be linked Aadhaar before 31st December. On Thursday, the centre has said this rule to widen the 12-digit biometric identity project. As per the reports, those who didn’t link their PAN (Permanent Account Number) to Aadhaar will be deemed invalid.

Currently, all taxpayers need to have PAN card to pay the income tax return, and others such as students use it as an identity proof. The government has mentioned that many of PAN cards are fraudulently obtained. Previously, the centre has announced that the Aadhaar Number is compulsory for filing income tax returns from 1st July 2017.

How to link PAN card to Aadhaar

  • Go to the e-Filing portal of the Income Tax Department and log in to the website by entering Log-In ID, Date of Birth and Password.
  • On logging into the site a pop-up window will appear, prompting you to link your PAN card number to Aadhaar.
  • If pop-up window doesn’t appear, go to profile settings and click on ‘Link Aadhar’ button.
  • Enter all the details as mentioned and then click on ‘Link Now’ button.
  • You will get a message after your PAN card successfully linked to Aadhaar.

For the past few years, the government has linked the Aadhaar Number to many schemes and subsidies. With the Aadhaar number linked to PAN card and bank accounts, the government can easily track the income and expenditures of the people and how much transactions are done in their bank accounts each time.

Earlier, the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley announced that the Aadhaar Number might become only the proof identity by replacing all other identification cards like Voter ID and PAN card. It also mentioned that the Aadhaar number is mandatory for income tax returns in order to find fraud and tax evasion.

Currently, more than 1.08 billion people in the country have a unique identification number. Around 250 million PAN cards are made mandatory for cash transactions if the hotel or travel bill exceeds Rs. 50,000. In addition to this, it is also necessary for the purchase of jewellery above Rs. 2 lakhs.

Academic Certificates Must be Inscribe with Aadhaar Number

University Grants Commission (UGC) asked all the universities to ensure that, the student’s academic certificates, degree certificates must contain a photograph and their Aadhaar Number. The centre has ordered all the vice chancellors to immediately introduce the Personal Identification Mechanism as a part of security measures.

By attaching the Aadhaar Number on the student’s academic certificates will be most helpful at the time loss of certificates. The University Grants Commission sought out all the security measures and ordered the universities to include the Aadhaar Number on academic certificates from now onwards.

“Such inscriptions, you would agree, will go a long way in uniformly marking a student’s personal identity and other associated details,” said by the UGC Secretary Jaspal S Sandhu.

According to the reports, the other details must also be inscribed on the certificates are Name of the institution in which student is enrolled and Mode of Education, i.e., Regular, Distance and Part-time. The latest directive was announced by UGC and also approved the proposal for granting the security measures for the academic or degree certificates.

“lt is important that these details are mentioned correctly on academic certificates which are used by students throughout their lives for various purposes and ends. I would be glad if you (vice chancellors) immediately implement these proposals in the interests of students in particular and system of higher education in general,” Sandhu said.

The Indian government is taking a step forward to make India a less-cash or cashless economy. BHIM App is an application which allows the people to send or receive money via Unified Payments Interface (UPI). It developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

The government made the availability of BHIM App only on Android devices, and they launched a new feature called Aadhar payments. Through this people can send money directly to the recipient’s 12-digit Aadhar number via BHIM App.

UPI based app will get biometric-based Aadhar pay option as well which will soon roll out in coming weeks. With the launch of biometric-based Aadhar pay, it will be easy for making payments via BHIM App.

Complete step-by-step process of using BHIM App for making cash transactions

By sending money, BHIM App can be useful if the recipient doesn’t have any virtual payment address for UPI. It is an alternative to entering the account number and bank IFSC. Apart from this, people have to check some important points for paying money through Aadhar number via BHIM App.

The person which you are sending money must have their Aadhaar number linked to bank account. If not, in that case, the payment via Aadhaar won’t work. BHIM doesn’t show the account holder’s name, so the user has to double-check the number before sending money. This was done to prevent the people from misusing the app to troll Aadhaar number.

The process to send money to Aadhar number via BHIM App is as follows

  • Install BHIM App from Android Play store.
  • Add your bank account.
  • If you are using the app for the first time you need to set a password.
  • After successful mobile verification, the apps show you the list of banks.
  • Click on the Send money option.
  • Tap on the payment method, choose Aadhaar pay.
  • Enter recipient’s Aadhaar number.
  • Tap on the verify option which checks if the Aadhaar number linked to bank or not.
  • Double-check the number before sending the money.
  • Enter the amount and mention the reason for payment.

Aadhaar Payment app to be launch on 25th December

Moving towards the dream of making Digital India, the central government is planning to launch Aadhaar Payment app soon. So consumers will be able to get rid of plastic money and fear of digital payment account passwords stolen.

Aadhaar Payment app, as the name suggests it will facilitate the Aadhaar-linked digital payment system. The government scheduled to launch the Aadhaar Payment app on tomorrow, i.e., 25th December 2016.

It uses consumer’s Aadhaar card details and their linked bank details along with biometric scans to authenticate transactions. People are no need to download various wallet apps and can make transactions and purchases directly through Aadhaar card number.

Government Starts to Aid Aadhaar Based Transactions through Mobile Phones

How does it work?

  • Consumers need to download the Aadhaar Payment app on their smartphones on their smartphones.
  • They need to connect to the biometric reader which is currently available for Rs 2000.
  • Enter your Aadhaar card number into the app and select the bank for transaction.
  • The biometric scan is used as a password for the transaction to authenticate.

IDFC bank along with UIADI and the National Payments Corporation of India has developed this Aadhaar Payment app. It has two sides, and one is merchant app, and other is consumer app.

  • Consumer app is just like the mobile wallet which is linked to Aadhaar card to make quick online transactions.
  • The primary part of the Merchant app is Merchant app.

Misuse of Aadhaar Card is now a Punishable Offence

If a customer has two accounts in the same bank, they need to choose the primary account out of those two. So whenever any Aadhaar-based transactions made, the amount will detect from credit or debit from the selected account by default.

The Aadhaar Payment app aims to eliminate the fee payments or transactions for service providers like MasterCard or Visa.
