India’s Shashank Manohar had stepped down as the ICC chairman citing personal reasons. The Ex BCCI member’s resignation even took everyone by surprise. He was elected as the Chairman of International cricket council without any opposition in the month of July 2016. He had taken the ICC Chief Post from N.Srinivasan. Mr. Manohar had left the top ICC post with still two years of tenure.
Shashank had sent his resignation to CEO of ICC Dave Richardson stating no exact reason in it. Manohar in his letter stated that “I was elected unopposed as the first independent Chairman of ICC last year. I have tried to do my best and have tried to be fair and impartial in deciding matters in the functioning of the Board and in matters related to Member Boards along with the able support of all Directors.”
He added that “However, for personal reasons, it is not possible for me to hold the august office of ICC Chairman, and hence I am tendering my resignation as Chairman with immediate effect.
“I take this opportunity to thank all the Directors, the Management and staff of ICC for supporting me wholeheartedly. I wish ICC all the very best and hope it achieves greater heights,” he concluded.
The 59-year-old had tried to lessen the influence of three cricket boards namely BCCI( India), ECB (England) and CA(Austrailia) on ICC. He under his leadership has been working on reshaping the Revenue sharing model of International Cricket Council.
Inside reports suggest that the resignation was due to the tussle between the ICC and BCCI over the revenue sharing issue. Shashank was accused of leaving Indian Cricket board in tough situations. He left BCCI stating his inability to implement reforms made by the Lodha Committee
