Digital India or E-governance whatever the name is, a facility that makes a common man use the government provided facilities in easy manner has a new saga now.

Facebook, one of the most popular social media network in India has taken a responsible role. Election Commission of India has joined hands with Facebook for new voter registrations.

This is a major step from Election Commission of India. There are over a 155 million Facebook users in India. Five Indian states Punjab, Manipur, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Goa are heading towards Assembly general elections.

New voter registration is being done in those states. With the concept of e-governance, people are brought with easy methods to avail government policies. Facebook India Public Policy Director Ankhi Das and Chief Electoral Officer Radha Raturi has confirmed about the joint project of new voter registrations.

This is very much helpful as Facebook registration also have age confirmation. Voter registration has the same. But the facility has been activated only to the mentioned five states in India. In the Timeline zone of Facebook, ‘Register to Vote’ tag has been activated for the users to get registered.

By clicking the tag provided, the users will be re-directed to the official portal of the Election commission of India where the users have to enter their personal details and get registered.

From October 6th Punjab can view this new feature, Manipur users from Oct 7th, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh users from Oct 8th and Goa users from Oct 9th, 2016.

Further messages are delivered through the social networking sites. This will also eradicate fake registrations to maximum extent. Age and other details as entered at the time of Facebook registration will also be taken into consideration while registering with Electoral India.

Young people who are turning 18 years as on January 1st, 2017 are eligible for Voter registration.
