Mercedes-Benz new Flagship Luxury Model GLS 400 Materialize with Petrol Edition

Mercedes-Benz has added a new addition to its SUV segment. This premium GLS 400 4MATIC is offered as the flagship model in India. The design retains the features from the earlier model GLS 350d.

GLS 400 is equipped with the V6 biturbo petrol engine. The vehicle turns out 333PS of power and 480Nm of torque. The diesel variant is made at the company’s plant located at Pune; the GLS 400 will be brought to India through the CBU route.

It seems the vehicle is the only petrol-powered luxury SUV in India. The new classification from German automobile manufacturer is fundamentally a facelifted GL which the company adopted last year.

With the Mercedes counterparts, GLS 400 placed above the GLS 350d. The premium SUV GLS 400 did not gain any notable exterior changes and measures. The dimensions of GLS 400 are 5130mm length, 1934mm width, 1850mm height and a wheelbase of 3,075mm.

The GLS gets a new front view as a part of facelift design, which reminds the new-age look in the category. The front grill has got a chrome treatment and features a bigger Mercedes-Benz logo.

Multi-beam headlights incorporated with DRLs can be observed as a part of all new front profile. Summing all, the revised GLS design ensures a much sportier look than earlier. GLS 400 has remained with the same set of features which has been observed in GLS 350d.

Dashboard design and overall arrangement are alike S-Class, and the cabin feels much more luxurious with sprawling leather seats. On entertainment font, the manufacturer has updated the display with an eight-inch unit which runs on the COMAND system.

The options shown on the screen resemble the GL SUV. Another option shared with S-class is the color of ambient lights in the cabin. The GLS engine coupled with a 9-speed gearbox with a 9G-Tronic transmission.

Mercedes-Benz declares that the new GLS 400 offers a fuel efficiency of 11.23kmpl. On the other hand, it’s sibling GLS 350d is equipped with a 3.0-litre diesel engine which produces 258PS at 3,400rpm and turns out a torque of 620Nm.

New Mercedes-Benz GLS will be a tough competitor for Volvo XC90 and the Audi Q7 and others in its segment. The premium GLS 400 is launched in India priced Rs 82.9 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
