The government of India has made the payment of tax easier for the people than before by launching the new GST Portal (Goods Service and Tax portal), and it went live. Businesspeople and Traders can pay their tax returns and tax payments through credit/debit cards and other modes by logging into the new Goods and Service Tax portal.

GSTN is the company which is building massive IT infrastructure for Goods and Service Tax regime in India. Most interestingly, this GST Portal was launched when the day of Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the ban of Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes across the country.

There are already 65 lakh VAT payers, three to four lakh Central Excise Taxpayers and 20 lakh Service Taxpayers has started the enrollment in this new GST Portal. A new state-wise schedule has also been provided for the registration of existing taxpayers.

The website www.gst.gov.in introduced by GSTN Company which was also building the excellent infrastructure and IT backbone for it. All the current taxpayers of value added tax can start the enrollment from Tuesday onwards which is followed by service tax and excise.

As per the latest news released by GSTN Chairman Navin Kumar, this GST Portal will be an easy method for crores of taxpayers where they can quickly and smoothly pay the tax dues which was earlier paid across various complicated ways.

Hence from now onwards all the traders, merchants and people in business can now pay their monthly or yearly excise duty, service tax and VAT and all other tax dues from the GST Portal. According to the reports, 60 percent of the software required for running GST structure across the country has already started and aiming to complete remaining work.

GSTN Chairman Navin Kumar said, ‘’Because we began work in November 2015, today we are in a comfortable position that 60 percent of the software development has been completed; 40 percent is balanced, and that work is going on.”

As per the latest reports, the migration of around 80lakh taxpayers from Puducherry and Sikkim has started, and it will be phase-wise to complete in all the states. A new PAN card based temporary ID card will be created for 80 lakh taxpayers which would be referred as GST ID. It will be 15-digit long and will be generated once the Parliament passes the one last legislation related to GST.
