We all are very familiar with the Facebook Events, as event notifications popup when your friends are interested in attending the event that is near to you. Every month above 550 million people on Facebook use Facebook Events to get informed about the recommended events. But now, Facebook for the first time decided to take Events to the next level for its users by unveiling Featured Events.

With this new feature the events are listed out by the humans, but not machine generated. So, users can explore a heap of events, parties or other gathering around them. Currently, the Facebook Events feature is launched only for iOS users in ten cities of Unites States.

Facebook Event curators will examine the each city’s top art, entertainment, family, festival, fitness, food & drink, learning, community, music and sports events. Then put the selected events which are worth checking out by the user.

Facebook Events Product Manager, Aditya Koolwal in a statement said, “You can think about it like a weekend or weekly digest of cool stuff that you can do in your city.” Koolwal added that the Facebook Events curation team “will not include events primarily focused on politics or worship.” And he also admits that, “after trending we’ve learned a lot.”

The ten cities which can access the Facebook Events feature are Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York City, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington, D.C. And according to curators, the feature may be widely launched, if have a good result.

“What we do is have a team of people who are basically looking at events on Facebook that have broad appeal, that a lot of people could go to, and they’re highlighting ones they think will be good to list out,” says Koolwal.
