Datawind Inc., the leading web-access products developer and low-cost tablets maker has inaugurated its manufacturing unit in Hyderabad. The group was set up with an initial investment of Rs 100 crore to produce 20 lakh tablets and phones in the first year.

Telangana IT Minister and Industry minister KT Rama Rao (KTR) and Nadir Patel, high commissioner of Canada have inaugurated India’s top-selling wireless products ‘Datawind’ at Hyderabad. Aims to boost make in India initiative and developing Telangana economically; Telangana IT Minister KTR is doing hard work to get best companies to Telangana.

Datawind Hyderabad plant hires 600 people, and in coming days it will increase to 1,000. This is the Canadian company, and it has only one production center in India which is at Amritsar. It is producing more than one lakhs touch panels from Amritsar plant per month, and now Hyderabad unit is the second one in India after Amritsar.

While starting the production unit of Datawind, Telangana State IT Minister KTR said, “I thanked Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli for launching the manufacturing unit of Datawind in Hyderabad and welcoming the team of the Canadian company to the Telangana State. I know Datawind is a famous and leading company to develop wireless and low-cost tablets and we will give full support from TS Government for its developing and successful operations.

Speaking to media, Suneet Singh Tuli, Datawind CEO said, “The Company has emerged as India’s largest tablet maker for the past couple of years. We are coming out to produce a full range of products including tabs, mini laptops, and smartphones. From the last few months, the company has shipped 2.5 lakh units. Datawind top the market with a 37 percent share. Now, it has entered into smartphones segment and recently it has released Rs 1,500 smartphone with touchscreen and free unlimited internet for one year.”

“We have capability for producing 50 Lakh phones but we are now focusing on low-cost devices in the range of Rs 1,500 to 5,000. The whole team of Datawind is honored by the presence of Minister KTR and Nadir Patel to launch Hyderabad unit” Said, Suneet Singh Tuli.
