According to the findings, cockroach milk contains four times of protein rich content than cows milk. Hence it can be served as the best supplement of proteins for human consumption. The “milk” is not a true milk secreted by the cockroaches since they are not mammals. But the liquid that is discussed is a formula that is secreted by diploptera family to nourish their off springs. The secretion is a liquid first which turns out to a crystal in the developing cockroach gut. These protein crystals are used to nurture their embryos.

These protein crystals are the key factors for the scientists. The crystals contain complete diet supplements like proteins, fats and carbohydrates. Dr Sanchari Banerjee, leading author of the study, said in an interview. This part of the fact makes all scientists excited for further analysis. A single protein crystal is said to carry the same amount of energy found in buffalo milk. More over the protein sequence contains all essential amino acids.
Cockroaches are notorious for their capability to survive in any deserted condition for food, so it makes sense that they have such a mechanism of protein rich formula.
Based on this numerous researches are sprouting around the protein rich crystal. One such exploration is going at Institute of Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine, where they have researched a way to replicate the crystal formulas in the lab to create a lab protein supplement. They succeeded in getting the initial sequence and trying to replicate via yeast.
