Amazon has announced the launch of Prime Video service in India. The service made its debut in India with a primary aim to fulfilling all video content needs.
The new video app will compete with existing players be it movies or TV shows. Amazon is offering Prime Video as cheaper at Rs 42 per month as of now. Given that the service will cost around Rs 499 per year in India as an introductory price.
This pricing is very aggressive when comparing to the existing players like Netflix and Hotstar, which is an Indian origin app. However, Amazon will raise its price to Rs 999 next year, costing around Rs 84 per month. While Hotstar charges Rs 199 a month, Netflix came up with a pretty high price of Rs 500 a month for basic packages. The charge for Netflix goes higher for HD viewing and Premium subscription of Ultra-HD viewing.

The Video service has listed movies of different genres like Comedy, Drama, Thrillers, Action and Adventure, Crime, Bollywood, Animated, Romance, and Horror. Besides Hindi and English, regional languages like Telugu, Marathi, Tamil and Bengali are also featured in the app.
Altogether, Amazon chooses the smart strategy of focusing on local content. The video app has begun services in India with latest Hindi movies like Kabali, Sultan, Raaz, Sarabjit, Kapoor & Sons, Fan, Prem Ratan Dhan Payo. It also includes few other exclusive movies like Shaandaar, Dil Dhadakne Do, Talaash, Student of the Year, Fukrey and Rock On.
Amazon Prime Video also has a ‘Kids & Family Movies’ section featuring content like Planet Hulk, Himalayan Adventures, Next Avengers, The Spongebob Movie, etc. The Original Indian Series of the Amazon offers diverse genres such as comedy, drama, psychological thriller, biopics, mythological/fantasy, period/action, sports drama and political satire.
