Soon Book your Rail Tickets via UPI and BHIM at Reservation Counters

In a bid to boost cashless transactions, the Indian Railways has said that it will accept money through Unified Interface Payment UPI and BHIM App for booking railway tickets from reservation counter. To promote digital payments, the Indian Railways has taken this decision and also said that this UPI facility is launched only for reserved tickets.

“We are going to roll out UPI-based payment system at all reservation counters across the country” Railway Board member Mohammad Jamshed said in New Delhi. He said over 97 percent of the tickets sold at Passenger Reservation System (PRS) counters daily are through cash and only two-three percent of transactions at the reservation counters are through debit or credit cards.

Nearly 7.5 lakh tickets are booked daily by the passengers all over India, and 5 lakh tickets are booked at (PRS) Passenger Reservation System counters. “Now a passenger does not have to carry his credit/ debit card, as they will be able to book it through BHIM app through a mobile phone,” Jamshed said.

Currently, the team is working to develop Bharat Quick Response Code option to book tickets. Passengers have to just scan the QR code to make the payments.

Every day the Indian Railways earns nearly Rs.110 crores by selling reserved tickets. Out of them, Rs.30 crores are earned through tickets sold at reservation counters, and Rs.80 crores are from e-ticketing.

BharatQR code Launched to Increase Digital Payment System in India

The government of India introduced various services to increase the digital payments in the country through mobile wallets and other online payment systems. In this process, today the government has taken a step further and launched QR (quick response) code which known as BharatQR code. Through this people are allowed to pay for the items without swiping their plastic cards.

The BharatQR code is designed by the NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India) Visa and MasterCard.  Consumers are no need to scan different QR code at the merchant which provided by the various payment networks. Instead of that, they are allowed to scan the QR code through the acquiring bank mobile application.

This payment acceptance solution works through MasterCard, Visa and RuPay accounts. The BharatQR code is formulated under the instructions of Reserve Bank of India. “There is an implied suggestion that this (payment) sector needs to free of licensing mechanism and once a set of criteria fixed, any number of entities meeting those standards should be allowed to function. We differ from this idea,” said by the RBI Deputy Governor R Gandhi.

To start the payment process through BharatQR code, first users have to link their credit/debit cards to the app and have to select the respective card during the payment. The app linked with MasterCard, Visa and RuPay platforms usually comes with inbuilt QR code reader.

Users have to link the card or bank accounts to the app as a one-time activity. While making the payment, users have to scan the BharatQR code through the mobile app. The amount you purchased will transfer from your account to merchant’s bank account. The BharatQR code is the second digital payment system successfully introduced by the government after Unified Payments Interface (UPI) based BHIM app.

Now Send Money to Aadhaar number via BHIM App

The Indian government is taking a step forward to make India a less-cash or cashless economy. BHIM App is an application which allows the people to send or receive money via Unified Payments Interface (UPI). It developed by National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

The government made the availability of BHIM App only on Android devices, and they launched a new feature called Aadhar payments. Through this people can send money directly to the recipient’s 12-digit Aadhar number via BHIM App.

  • Install BHIM App from Android Play store.
  • Add your bank account.

  • Tap on the payment method, choose Aadhaar pay.
  • Enter recipient’s Aadhaar number.
  • Tap on the verify option which checks if the Aadhaar number linked to bank or not.

  • Enter the amount and mention the reason for payment.

Steps Explaining in Detail about UPI Offline process:

You get a welcome screen with seven options just after dialing *99#- send money, request money, check balance, my profile, pending requests, transactions, and UPI PIN.

Send Money:

After selecting the ‘send money’ option, you can send money either by entering their mobile number, using IFSC code and account number, choose from already saved beneficiaries, Virtual Payment Address (VPA), or via MMID and mobile number.

The process of transferring money to UPI VPA is quite smooth and simple. Select option ‘1’ in the home menu, to send money. Then choose ‘2’ to enter payment address followed by the payment address of the recipient.

The recipient details will be shown along with his/her name after entering the payment address. Then enter the amount you want to transfer not exceeding Rs 20,000 followed by entering 4-digit UPI PIN in the next step, and hit send.

Once the money is sent, it asks you either to save the recipient or exit.

Request Money:

You can request money by selecting the ‘Request Money’ option from the home screen. Then enter the VPA, followed by the amount in the next screen. This step passes a collect money notification to the recipient.

Check Balance:

This option allows you to check the available balance your bank account. You need to enter the 4-digit UPI PIN to get the account balance on the screen.
