The tech giant Apple has asked its suppliers to make at least 75 million units of 5G supporting iPhones for later this year. The company is making the estimation of selling approx. the same number of phones as last year. The launch of the new iPhone has been delayed and was very much anticipated; thus, the hype is real even amidst the pandemic.

The California-based tech giant expects to sell over 80 million units of their flagship phone in late 2020. As the company has previously hinted that the new upcoming iPhone maybe one of the most revolutionary iPhones rolled out by the company yet, it is creating anticipation among the fans for the release and sales.

The word around the valley is that it is not only the new iPhone you need to be excited for, Apple is also planning to roll out some other new generation of devices too. An iPad Air with iPad Pro like edge to edge screen, 2 new versions of Apple Watch, Apple’s first ever ‘over the head’ headphone (outside the Beats line of products) and a small home speaker is also on its way. However, the company has not yet commented anything regarding these rumors.

Apple always tends to scale up the production of the units when they are near to a new release as the market is always quite responsive towards the new line of products released by the company. It has been a tradition for the Apple suppliers to manufacture atleast 70-80 million units as the stats from 2018-2019 makes it quite evident. The assembler company for Apple has also circulated a job opening on WeChat for their main iPhone manufacturing facility. This clearly indicated that everyone is preparing for the big release and you can expect to get your new iPhone in your hands without much hassle.

While all the companies are trying to recover from the damage caused by the pandemic, Apple has been experiencing a rise in the demand for its flagship products like newer iPhones. The phone alone is the source of 60% sales of the company. Considering the hype created for the new iPhone by comparing it to be as revolutionary as iPhone 6 at the time of its release, it is quite clear that Apple is not going to have a bad time generating enough revenue any time soon.

iOS 11.4 to Disable USB Port After 7 Days: What Does It Mean for Mobile Forensics?

A new iOS update is expected to be released in the coming days. Surprisingly, the new update comes with a major security feature and the lightning port will be disabled after 7 days. Let’s have a closer look at the security measure and the reasons behind the update.

USB Restricted Mode in iOS 11.4

Apple has introduced a term “USB Restricted Mode” in the new update iOS 11.4 Beta, but this feature appeared first in the iOS 11.3 Beta. In order to enhance the security features for iOS devices that are locked and to communicate with USB accessories, the device needs to be connected with the help of a lightning connector while it is unlocked. But, the functionality of USB Restricted Mode is very much simple. When any iOS device is upgraded to the latest version, it will disable USB connection via Lightning port after 7 days once it has been unlocked.

But, it’s not clear whether the USB port gets blocked if the iOS device is not unlocked using password for a week or if the device is not connected to a genuine computer USB or a PC. When it was tested, it was confirmed that the USB locks even if the device remains idle for 7 days and the lightning port can only be used as a source for charging.

Forensic Consequences of USB Restricted Mode

iPhone that runs on version 11.3 has to be unlocked once in a week in order to achieve Restricted USB Mode. If you fail to unlock the iPhone, the Lightning port will reduce itself only to charge mode. Hence, the device will no longer be able to establish a data connection and would also fail to prompt “Trust this computer?” until the user unlocks the device that has to be updated.

What Happens After 7 Days?

Information such as date and time of the device, which was unlocked, will be recorded by the iOS. Based on this information, the Lightning port will disable after 7 days. Soon after this, the device will no longer be able to pair with any existing lockdown record, USB accessory or computer without unlocking it using passcode.

Apple to get true tone display in its upcoming iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 models

Reports say that the upcoming series of iPhone’s this year will get a True Tone display. This technology was found in 9.7-inch iPad Pro earlier. This True Tone display was developed by Apple will shift the screen shades depending on the atmosphere.

As per the report, Austrian semiconductor manufacturer AMS supplies this ‘full spectral sensing’ ambient light sensor. Essentially, the technology requires this full spectral sensor for its functioning. It is more like a Night shift, but it performs more than just reducing the blue light emission. However, it is activated in the day time too.

This true tone technology could be a 24-hour solution which works to adjust the brightness, white balance, and color, to enhance color accuracy and text legibility.

“For the expected iPhone 7S models, as well as the iPhone 8, we think ams’ content increases due to the inclusion of its full spectral sensing ambient light sensor, as already seen in the iPad Pro for that device’s True Color screen functionality. We estimate this to be a material step-up in content from the $0.60 range to $1.0,” the Barclay’s report notes.
