Indian Railways Partners Google to Create Free Virtual Tour for Railway Passengers

In collaboration with tech giant Google, the Indian Railways has undertaken a crowd-sourcing workout to create a digital repository of its abundant heritage. By this project Railways is working to provide a free virtual tour for passengers.

In a pilot task, Google Cultural Institute has actually deployed or released 6 video clips at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Station in Mumbai showcasing the national carrier’s rich background and heritage -with much of the web content crowd-sourced.

“A virtual visit will never replace the real thing. But technology can help open up art and culture to everyone, and we think that’s the powerful thing,” said a senior Railway Ministry official involved with the project.

There will certainly be more such screens at various other terminals to expose passengers to the Railway’s past, said the authorities.

The Indian Railways began collecting unusual photos through its unique crowd-sourcing effort.  It entered into a contract with the Google Cultural Institute to digitise and display these pieces of history on electronic systems and to help create a digital repository for Global and free Universal online access.

Various institutes of the federal government and other ministries have already collaborated and worked together with the Google Cultural Institute for displaying and showing India’s cultural heritage digitally. Indian Railways has a massive list of heritage assets consisting of heavy steam locos, artefacts, bridges, and also galleries which could be showcased for a global audience.

It currently has 34 galleries, heritage parks and heritage galleries across India. It has also additionally maintained about 230 heavy steam locomotives, 110 vintage coaches and also wagons at prominent locations. Also, it has a large database of built heritage, consisting of 25 bridges and 70 buildings.

“Once these are placed online, it will act as a great tourist attraction,” the official said.The Indian Railways invests Rs.250 crores annually to keep and manage the heritage properties.

“We are seeking private players’ participation to help preserve rail heritage assets - like SBI Foundation is doing at CSTM,” the official added. Google is also providing free Wi-Fi service at 100 stations, as part of the Digital India-Digital Rail campaign.

Indian Railway Time Table: Indian Railways has released a new railway timetable which will be in effect from November 1, 2023. In a bid to increase the speed of long-distance trains thereby reducing the running time Central Government has released the innovative timetabling.

According to the revised railway timetable, the runtime of some long trains would cut by 15 minutes to two hours. Known for making revolutionary changes, Railway Minister Piyush Goel is keeping his mark on the new ministry.

To speeding up the trains and also following safety measures, Indian Railways would be implementing automatic signaling mechanism. In addition to the infrastructure upgrade, the National Transport system is also introducing the new Linke-Hofmann-Busch coaches that allow a 130 kmph top speed.

Under the supervision of railway minister Piyush Goel, railways are also in the process of reviewing permanent speed restrictions. According to the New Railway Timetable, the halt time of some trains will be reduced. From November 1, No Halting of trains at selected stations with less footfall would be implemented.

Railways official twitter handle has tweeted about the same and released the New Railway Timetable on the official site.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal stated that”Initially, the railways had a target of removing all unmanned crossings in three years. But I told them, why not do it within a year? There are around 5,000-odd such level crossings. Removal of unmanned crossing will lead to 30-35 percent reduction in accidents,”Few rail users said that there is nothing for the people of Andhra Pradesh to cheer about the new Railway Time Table issued by the East Coast Railway (ECoR)

Some are commenting that Although the speeding up of trains is appreciable but concerning the safety of people, specific measures have to be taken. It is known that the Indian government has allotted a special safety fund of Rs 1.31 lakh crore in its Budget for Indian Railways.

Indian railways integrated ticketing system to roll out for pilot run in Mumbai first

Mumbai people can now travel by any means with one ticket: Indian railways is making constant efforts to assists travelers in a smart way. Integrated ticketing concept is one of such most ambitious projects which Indian railways have announced earlier. Essentially, this integrated ticket platform allows users to travel by any means with one ticket. The project has been finally started, and Mumbai has been elected for the pilot run of the project.

With this integrated ticket, Mumbai people can now travel in a train, metro, bus, auto or a taxi. Undoubtedly, this integrated ticketing in Mumbai will be an extremely benefitting initiative by Indian railways.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be managing the project within Mumbai. All public transports like BEST buses, metros, local trains, auto rickshaws black-and-yellow taxis will be integrated within this system.

Indian Railways to Provide New Uniforms to Staff Designed by Ritu Beri

Officials from Central and Western Railway and Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC) are planning strategies on this integrated ticketing. BEST, which spearheads bus services across Mumbai city and Mumbai Metro One Private Limited (MMOPL) have agreed for the implementation of integrated ticketing system.

“MRVC will present the railways’ perspective to the MMRDA, which is the primary organization for the integrated ticketing system,” says, Prabhat Sahai, chairman, and MD, MRVC.

However, there are two stages involved in this new initiative by Indian railways. A special software should be integrated with the existing ticketing system at Mumbai railway stations and Mumbai metros. Special entry and exit gates should be installed exclusively for the integrated system of ticketing.

MMRDA is planning to call for tenders to execute single ticketing platform. This concept of integrated rail tickets will be rolled out across the India soon based up on the results in Mumbai.

Railways has undertaken complete makeover in 15 Rajdhani and 15 Shatabdi trains. Indian Railways has launched a three-month long project ‘Swarn’ which will renovate premium trains including Rajdhani and Shatabdi.

Indian Railways new app to incorporate all rail-related services at one platform

There will be different set of uniforms for comprising on-board staff , TTE’s , station masters, guards, drivers and catering personnel. Half and full sleeve T-shirts in black and yellow combinations have been designed for the office staff and T-shirts in white and black border for catering staff.

While Fluorescent jackets are designed for TTE’s , guards and drivers. These new uniforms will be also given to the technical staff in workshops and production units .These uniforms are designed with comfort being most important feature added Beri.

Initially, designer Ritu Beri presented four themes for INDIAN RAILWAY UNIFORMS

THEME 1: Ethos Of India
This theme has kalamkari form Andhra Pradesh , Madhubani from bihar , Mehendi from Rajasthan and Warli from Madhya Pradesh.
Colour Option 1: Black , Ivory , Maroon and Midnight blue

THEME 2: The Golden Period
This theme is featuring Harappa Age stupa and the Konark Temple
Colour Option 2: Olive Green , Cream, Khaki, Rust , Navy Blue.

THEME 3: The Legacy Of the Nawabs
This theme is about the epitome of royal and grandeour lifestyle of the nawabs including intricate inlay work.
Color Option 3: Deep Navy Blue ,Ash White, Cobalt Blue ,Maroon.

THEME 4: The Vibrant soul Of India
This theme is all about colourful and vibrant soul of India with more of Kitsch appeal.
Color Option 4: TaNgerine , Turquoise , Emrald , White and Navy Blue.

This new designs will be first tried by few Rajdhani and Shatabdi and later extended to other services in name of project Swarn. Railway Ministry will soon examine the designs submitted by Ritu Beri and decide the final one shortly. The Railway Ministry is planning to unveil the new look in Rajdhani and Shatabi trains on board staff on 2nd October.

IRCTC website down: The Indian Railways Online Ticket Booking website and IRCTC Mobile App has Gone down for more than 2 hours on Tuesday June 20, leaving thousands of passengers and users facing inconvenience. Unable to book tickets, Passengers were seen queued up in major Railway Stations. The Un-Expected and Sudden Shutdown of both App and Rail Portal during the middle of the day made people suffer. An Error message was seen on the IRCTC online Portal saying

“Due to some system maintenance works the railway online ticket booking website was down. The Website was seen displaying a message ” DUE TO MAINTENANCE ACTIVITY E-TICKETING SERVICE IS NOT AVAILABLE. PLEASE TRY LATER.FOR CANCELLATION/FILE TDR, PLEASE CALL AT CUSTOMER CARE NO. 011-39340000,011-23340000 OR MAIL AT etickets@irctc.co.in.”

The Exact time for the Maintenance of the official portal has not been mentioned and this left passengers in confused state of mind.

Minister of Railways Mr. Suresh Prabhu is very active on Twitter and he has came to the rescue of railway passengers who are in help. The official twitter handle of Indian Railways @IRCTC_LTD also very active in responding to the tweets of the Railway passengers.

So Seeking quick response from the concerned authorities many people has gone to twitter about the issue.Twitter has erupted with tweets of users who were unable to book tickets. Being wexed up with the Official site down, the passengers took twitter to express their concern. Check out the tweets of passengers expressing their anguish.

The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation IRCTC has more than 3 crore registered users. On an Average the IRCTC portal alone is used to book over 6 lakh tickets.
