Design:

Coolpad is well known for its design which it provides for a smartphone. Be it flagship or a midrange, Coolpad design always stands unique in the segment. Though it is plastic built, the phone is bounded by metal edges. The button placement is quite normal. It comes with a 2.5D glass on front and gloss finished rear panel. The bezel length is a bit more while bottom chin incorporates capacitive keys.

On the top edge, you get a 3.5mm jack and a power button on the left edge. Volume rockers are positioned on the right edge. USB charger is provided on the bottom edge. The rear panel of the phone provides space for a fingerprint scanner just below the camera. The device measures 154.5 x 77.4 x 8.3 mm in dimensions and weighs 163 g.

Coolpad Note 3S features a 5.5” inch HD IPS display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. The phone display packs pixels density around 267 ppi. The screen-to-body ratio comes around 69.7 percent which is a bit high. The display may disappoint you as the peers in the segment offers Full HD screens of the same size. Another latest offering from Coolpad, Note 5 offers a far better display.

Images are visible, colors are not so punchier, Black labels are good. The phone readability in Indoor condition is about average. You may complain about screen reflection issues as you witness poor readability even in full brightness. Due to its reflective nature, Objects on the screen washes out easily when you come under sunlight. The absence of ambient light sensor results in poor viewing angles and awful display. The display performance is not up to the mark if you are a great multimedia lover.

Performance:

Coolpad Note 3S is powered by a Snapdragon octa-core MSM 8929 processor clocked at 1.36GHz. The processor is coupled with 3GB RAM and Adreno 405 GPU. An internal memory of 32GB is provided which can be expandable through microSD card. The processor unit does perform well in multitasking on the net and running multiple apps.

Gaming experience is not bad either. You don’t find any major lag issues or heating issues as well. The provided 3 gigs RAM carries out all functions with ease. Coolpad Note 3S also supports USB OTG connectivity, and you can directly plug in microUSB and view files. The Phone supports all major connectivity options which include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.0, microUSB v2.0 and FM radio.

The fingerprint scanner at the back works well and responds quickly. Overall, the phone is good for regular usage and gaming. The apps launch quickly and you don’t notice any major frames drops either.

Coolpad Note 3S packs a 13-megapixel primary camera with f/2.2 aperture with autofocus and LED flash. The camera specs are similar to that of its predecessor. The camera performs well in the segment, and you’ll surely get impressed with pictures which the sensor captures. Coolpad provides good range of camera options along with beauty, pro, and night modes. Images we took in normal daylight are been bright and showed good details. You only find noise in pictures only when you zoom in.

Another 5-megapixel camera with fixed focus of f/2.2 aperture is provided on the front. The sensor gives it maximum to produce a decent selfie. However, the pictures are just ok. You cannot expect great selfies to upload in your social media accounts. Coolpad Note 3S can also record videos up to 1080p resolution at 30fps.

Battery:

A 2500 mAh non-removable battery backs the device which makes a suitable mate for the specs. The handset doesn’t run out of juice more than a day on a moderate usage. If you are a heavy 4G user, you can get over a day hardly.But still, it is a decent battery, and you don’t face any issues with it. Apart from surfing the internet, the battery is brilliant on the usage of regular apps, music and call network.

Verdict:

Coolpad Note 3S essentially another offering in the series from the maker. The performance focused device works well in most of the areas. The Build quality and the design of the device are good. With few exceptions, Coolpad Note 3S is a good budget mobile. It does satisfy you until you compare it with other mobiles in the segment.

If you are a great camera lover, you have other options like Xiaomi Redmi 3S prime. More options like Lenovo K6 power are up with a better battery. If are a current user of Coolpad Note 3, update only if you have a strong reason with you.
