YouTube Losses Many Advertisers for Placing the Ads Next to Hate Speech

Many of the advertisers are demanding Google the discounted prices for advertisements of them are appearing after the extremist videos and hate speech videos on YouTube. According to the reports, after this month revelation, the companies like Walmart, PepsiCo, Amazon, Starbucks and much more are announced that they suspended their advertising.

Along with Johnson & Johnson, Volkswagen, the telecom companies such as AT&T and Verizon also pulled their ads from the Google’s YouTube earlier this week. The removing of advertisements is still continuing even after apologising for tainting brands by the Google. The majority of companies are pulling the ads from YouTube and also from the sites which support Google’s Ad technology.

On Tuesday, the search giant proposed the changes of keeping the advertisements after the hate speech and extremist videos which was first spotted by The Times. This has become a larger problem for the YouTube and Google Advertising websites.

For more years till now, YouTube has championed itself as the place to find more number of videos in various factors. Google allows most of the automated programs to place ads in YouTube videos. Currently, about 400 hours of video posted each minute and over 1billion hours of video consumed each day on YT.

We’ve begun an extensive review of our advertising policies and have made a public commitment to put in place changes that give brands more control over where their ads appear. “We’re also raising the bar for our ads policies to safeguard our advertisers’ brands further,” Google said in a statement.

Google announced that it has promised to give permission for the brands direct control and insight of where their ads placed on YouTube and other Google-partnered third party websites. The search giant also said that they are implementing artificial intelligence powered filtering to detect and fix the offensive language and other hateful content in the video.

Flipkart acquires eBay India, raise up to $2 billion funding

One in a couple of largest e-commerce company in India, Flipkart has announced its acquisition of eBay India. Recently, the company has announced its fresh funding around $2 billion. This move from the e-commerce giant helps to fight with its rival Amazon. The acquisition will take up the eBay India operations and become a part of Flipkart.

eBay was launched back in 2004, and the failed to bring users close to e-commerce portal in India. The debut of companies like Snapdeal, Flipkart, and Amazon has pushed the eBay behind the pack. Reports say that eBay has listed even below the Paytm and Shopclues. As per filings with the registrar of companies, eBay has reported huge losses of Rs 262 crore in the FY 2015-2016.

When asked about the happening issue, eBay India spokesperson said, “eBay does not comment on market speculations.”

Flipkart secured its recent funding around $10 billion, which is below the $15.5 billion valuations which the company saw in 2015. The latest round of funding included investors from Tencent, eBay, and Microsoft. Latif Nathani, head of eBay India has quit the company recently. Earlier in November, the company has fired about 100 of its workforces at its technology center in Bengaluru.

Flipkart is fighting strong in the few months to raise funds, and the latest round will help the Flipkart to stand strong with its rival Amazon.in. Flipkart is negotiating with US retail giant Walmart to raise funds had not closed and that the US Company may invest in the medium term e-commerce.

Amazon to Provide You Styling Support with the New Outfit Compare Feature

Amazon has introduced another new feature for it prime members. This new Amazon Outfit compares feature will pass its advice on clothing to the users. The latest version of the Amazon shopping app provides the “Outfit Compare” in the sidebar navigation for its Prime members. Amazon has launched many such user-friendly services like Launchpad, Restaurants, Watch & Shop, etc. earlier.

The outfit compare feature prompts to share two of their photos wearing two different outfits they’re choosing between. Then, you’ll get a response from an Amazon stylist suggesting which outfit looks better on you. The suggestion will be sent determining various factors including the clothes fit, color and style, and trend.

It’s suggested you to click photos where your pose and background are similar. But Amazon says “it’s fine if you take a selfie in front of a full-length mirror. The photos are only viewed by Amazon staff.”

The photos can be deleted within the app and also the copies associated with your Amazon account. The advice you get is from the Amazon Stylists who are from various varied backgrounds. Amazon claims the experts are from the fashion industry, retail, editorial, creative and styling fields.

The Amazon Outfit compares feature quite simple to use. Click a photo and upload it in the app and submit to Amazon team. You’ll get an answer back in less than a minute which is not an automated one. As said earlier, Amazon has hired fashion specialists to work on this project.

The outfit can be rated on the style scale, and the best response will show the enthusiasm about the selection. The options include “We like this better,” “Definitely pick this one,” and “It was a close call.”

Many of the World’s Biggest Websites Stop Working after AWS Cloud Breaks

The world’s biggest websites have stopped working by a failure at one of Amazon’s major US data Centres.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), offers cloud-computing services operate from 16 geographical regions across the world. Many of the world’s biggest websites like Imgur, quora, Q&A forum and medium rely on its services. On Tuesday these high-profile websites and services went down.

After several hours, Amazon said it had rectified the problem, but it did not make public about the reason for disruption.

Most of the websites were knocked offline, and other services such as workplace collaboration tool slack, and some lost key functionality.

 It was AWS’s S3 services (Simple Storage Service) was affected. Amazon says that S3 services haven’t broken but it was experiencing higher “error rate” than usual. The websites that rely on this services can’t get online all the same.

Because of the many websites rely on internet’s most reliable services AWS, any bug can cause catastrophic problem across the internet. Other sites which heavily reply on its services are down entirely. Trello and other sites are completely broken by this problem.

US government services, like Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) were also affected.

Amazon India seeks Government Nod to Set Online Food Venture

Amazon applied to the government to $500 million investment in the wholly-owned venture in India. Last year, the company launched the Amazon Now service for the hyperlocal delivery in a few selected cities in the country. Amazon India plans to start the Online Food Venture.

The company is competing against the BigBasket and Grofers who have strong hold right now in India. However, Amazon can’t sell the products of its own online which is one different from other online websites. It has to source those from the grocery store and supply it to customers.

Amazon City-Specific Platform Allows Home-Based Business to Go Online

Amazon India subsidiary filed an application with the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) to the obtain licence to set up a retail chain in the country. After the approval from the department, it can sell food products locally produced directly from the farmers.

“We are excited by the government’s continued efforts to encourage FDI in India for a stronger food supply chain. We have asked approval to invest and partner with the government in achieving this vision,” said the Amazon Spokesperson.

Another giant retailer, Walmart was not interested in selling only thin-margin food products and despite the Government’s relaxation of FDI rules. The government decision to allow 100% FDI based on the assumption that farmers will able to benefit directly rather than selling to other companies that sell processed food in India.

Right now, the products that taken from the farmer processed in factories and then sold through Amazon. However, the government wants the company to directly purchase from the farmers, stock on its own warehouse and can sell directly to the farmers.

Hence, through this way, farmers will also get enough profit and consumer also gets more options to choose from. Amazon India is planning to set up the huge business in India.
